Dr. STYLIANOS YIATROS
Stylianos (or Stelios, as he is most commonly known) is an Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomaticsof the Cyprus University of Technology, since October 2011. Stelios has also been a Marie Curie Fellow at Cranfield Energy of Cranfield University in the UK (2015-2017). His research interests include modelling instabilities in thin-walled, sandwich and laminated structures, Biomimetic design, sustainable construction and engineering sustainability.
Stelios is also interested in innovative teaching methods for engineering education. When it comes to teaching, he believes in exercising Dan Pink’s three principles for motivation: Mastery, Autonomy and Purpose, thus allowing students to build up their own knowledge base and skills, while working methodically on interesting projects. Stelios is in the core team of the Climate-KIC Cyprus Regional Innovation Scheme and is the acting Education Lead for Climate-KIC activities in Cyprus and Greece.
Stelios is also the Co-founder of Chrysalis LEAP, the first business accelerator for Cleantech ideas in Cyprus.
