FUNCTIONALLY OPTIMIZED STRUCTURES
The Functionally Optimized Structures Group was founded in 2013 at the Cyprus University of Technology by Dr Stelios Yiatros, Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering & Geomatics. Its objective is to undertake research and development in the area of functionally optimized structures, focusing on the structural stability, integrity and design of thin walled, functionally graded and integrated structural components. We have also experience in biomimetic design as well as Climate Innovation and entrepreneurship. In the future we envision to provide specialized design, modelling and experimental services for the Construction, Marine and Energy Industries.
The Group is affiliated with the CUT Sustainable Energy Lab (EIT Climate-KIC partner) and SmartEN-i. Furthermore it collaborates with other Research Groups from Imperial College London, Cranfield University, University of Strathclyde, TU Berlin and many other public and private institutions across the Climate – KIC network.
INSIST
A Marie Curie Intra – European Fellowship project undertaken at Cranfield University in the UK. The project investigated the stability and integrity of steel foam sandwich panels. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no 623874.
